Project: 2015 Google Science Fair

Step Description Expected Student Results
1 *** Consider reviewing project sites from winners. Have the mentors review a past winner, identify excellent attributes of each step, share with student, and then have the student walk through the same process. For each step have the student identify the attributes of excellence they have listed that they will use in their own project. This will set the bar of quality for the work they are about to do. Then, throughout each step below require the students to discuss the current state of their work for each step or phase, the gap between that work and the bar of quality they've set, and how they plan to fill the gap.

1. Students will be introduced to the Google Science Fair
Project.
https://www.googlesciencefair.com/en/
2. Students will explore the website and peruse the "How
to Enter” steps.
https://www.googlesciencefair.com/en/how-to-enter
3. Students will determine if they want to work
individually, or in a group of 2 or 3.
4. Students can use the Idea Springboard to help them
come up with their main areas of interests.

their passions, aspirations, and main areas of interest
to best be paired with a mentor

when it comes to communicating with their team’s mentor
1.Students will become familiar with the Google Science
Fair
2. Students will determine who they will work with for the
project
3. Students will write an introduction paragraph to best be
paired with a mentor
4. Students will determine who their lead student is for
communication with their group’s mentor.
2 1. Students obtain parent permission to participate in
the Google
Science Fair.
2. Students will focus in on a specific question/problem.
*** Identify at least one professional or company or organization that cares about this specific question or problem. Make it real by ensuring each project is authentic.

3. Students will start working on their project site, leveraging the critique each step of a winning site above.

materials are needed for their investigation.
6. Students will begin collecting data if the above steps
are completed.

Mentor Role:
Mentors will become familiar with the Google Science Fair
Website.
