1 | Introductions between students and mentors STUDENTS: research their findings about their interests and skills and share the information with their mentor. With the results, they will make a list of potential career options and general career goals. Also students share their AVID Goal Setting Outline's short, mid, and long term goals and action-steps with the mentor. MENTORS: share with the students about your interests and skills as part of the introduction letter. Provide addtional career options for students who are unable to make a list based on their personal interests and skills, and provide addtional resources to help students.) Review student's AVID Goal-Setting Outline and provide addtional advice for student in refining and completing their goals. *Students that do not have interests and/or goals will be given ideas and online resources. These students will need addtional help from their mentor.* NOTE: STUDENTS CANNOT HAVE THE CAREER GOAL(S) OF BEING A PROFESSIONAL/AMATUER SPORTS PLAYER NOR GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL. THEY MUST HAVE BACK-UP PLANS. (Sports coaching is acceptable.) |

2 | STUDENTS: prepare a professional resume and cover letter than can be used for further academic and employment opportunities. Also update mentor on their AVID Goal-Setting accomplishments and share their new short and mid-range goals for October. MENTORS: inform student about the importance of having a resume and provide feedback on student's efforts. Also prompt student in how they are doing in accomplishing their AVID Goal-Setting and to share new short and mid-range goals and provide addtional feedback and ecouragement. |

3 | STUDENTS: begin researching on potential employers/volunteer organziations and record contact information and any position openings. Also continue working on their resume/coverletter and share their new AVID short term goals and update mentor on the progress in accomplishing their AVID mid/long term goals. MENTORS: assist in providing research information in finding appropriate employers and volunteer organizations for the student within the Topeka, Kansas area. Continue assisting in the final revisions of their resume/cover letter and review student's new short-term goals. |

4 | STUDENTS: will learn about how to do a successful job interview as part of the employment process by reading and answering important and selective interviews questions in their portfolio. Also share with their mentor the new weekly short-term AVID goals and update on the progress of their mid-term AVID Goals for the month of October. MENTORS: should review students' answers and provide addtional information and reasons in how to successfuly answer interview questions. Also provide addtional resources and information about the employment process (from application to interview). |

5 | STUDENTS: wrap up the project by sending a thank you message and final upload of your AVID Career Portfolio. Include an update on the progress of your mid-term goals for the month of October and your long-term sememester goals. Also share your thoughts on your future goals and actions plans for the months of November and December. Dont' forget to complete the survey! MENTORS: wrap up the program by encouraging students to complete the project and continue their education and future career plans. Review any final revisions of their resume/cover letter and/or Interview Q&A. Advise students on their AVID goals and plans for the months of November and December. Don't forget to complete the survey! |
