Mentor: Send an introductory message to the student which includes personal and professional experience related to finance and money. Also please review the "Personal Consumer Behavior Survey" to discuss the importance of having a budget. And discuss with students about possible career interests. |

2 | Students: Students begin researching on careers in preparation for budget/finance section of portfolio. Mentors: Assist and discuss with student with their chosen career (advantages/disadvantages) to use as their income reference for budget/finance section of their portfolio |

3 | Student: Upload their taxes and Per Cent budget document for their Consumer Skills portfolio. http://themint.org/kids/decoding-your-paycheck.html Mentors: Review website and "Per Cent Budget" document that is on the website. Share with student other voluntary deductions are on a paycheck and which are the important ones to consider. Also review with student if their income taxes and Per Cent Budget Plan realistically reflects where net monthly income is spent and advise where students could improve their budget spending or net income. |

4 | Students: using their Per Cent Budget plan, students will decide which type of vehicle they can afford and also a set of clothes for work. Mentors: (Some students may not be able to afford a car, but ALL students are requried to have a "work uniform.") Assist students in purchasing a car or other transportation option that is appropriate to the students's budget. Assist student, if neccessary, creative ways to purchase/aquire appropriate work clothes according to their budget. |
