I think it would be a good idea to talk a bit about metrics and timeframes when proposing solutions (making recommendations). Based on the business owner's goals, how do you measure or quantify some numbers around where the business is currently at in terms of the goals. Then based on the goals, one should be able to project what those numbers should be within a given timeframe. This helps the owner better articulate their goals, and ultimately allows one to go back and determine if proposed approach was sound or if there were things that could be improved upon. For example: 1. To say one needs a larger social media presence, what are the expected benefits - just because everyone else has it, to build the brand (and how do you measure that), to increase membership (that could be measured), etc... 2. To say one wants to capture 15% of a given demographic, what is the total size of that demographic, and what is 15% of that - is that a realistic goal and in what timeframe?
Not much! Teacher did a great job at keeping us updated on the project progress and what was expected to happen each week. That's really helpful.
Build in more iteration.
I think everyone did as much as they can.

The program and the teachers have done a good job of conveying to the students that they are expected to communicate twice weekly. However, for this type of project especially, the mentors could be of more assistance if we could see drafts of the materials rather than just being sent the final version. I do always make a point of asking for this, but in almost every case, as in the case with the student, Andrew, what happens instead is that the students send what they say as a draft, but it turns out that they have already turned it in or distributed it as a survey. I realize that the mentoring relationship is a loose one, and that you cannot put in an absolute checkpoint for this, but I think it would both improve the quality of the output, and more closely emulate Real working at life do you have the students get an implement mentor feedback for their project output
Not sure
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
I think Cullen's final project was good. I'm not sure if the whole team wrote the final draft or it was one person, but it was well organized and well thought out. There were a few grammatical errors. I think it would have been a good idea to clearly state what the goals were the Owner was trying to achieve at or near the beginning of the report. I did eventually find the goals further down in the report.
I feel as though I was not any help with this project. I received the project after it was submitted to the teacher. I had no input on the project. I did not see anything along the way except the initial survey.
I may not have seen the very final presentation but it was close enough. I had provided input on the format (may include in the executive summary some of the results too). A little too verbose, try to use bullets to highlight the different points, or replace text with graphs where numbers are involved.
Overall great job, great study and findings, I think Jacob reached the project's objectives. I really appreciated that he kept me in the loop on a regular basis and did not hesitate to share his work in progress.
I could have done a better job sharing the gap between the final project and where an industry standard was for that work.
still reading it-it is quite long
The final project was well written and contained all of the required information. The student used some of my suggestions to enhance the final version. The written interaction with Summor was consistent and on track with the project timeline.
Although there were some glaring errors that could have been corrected if I had gotten a draft, overall it was pretty good, in the top 50 percent of similar business projects I have mentored.
I was disappointed in the student's final project. I felt I could have helped out more but they must have decided they didn't need my help. However considering these are high school seniors, I was very disappointed in the writing ability of the student in general. I may have put the student off initially by heavily editing her initial work work thus she didn't want to show me the rest of her work after the survey was done. I thought the final report was poorly written and could have been much more visually informative.
Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
1 - No

Why or why not.
I have enjoyed working with our youths and hopefully help mold them to be better individuals and professionals.
Ideally, the student and I both learn. It is good to be able pass on some of the things I have learned in my professional career.
This was the second student I tried to mentor and had a very challenging experience. A few years ago, the first one dropped out of the mentoring program. Therefore, I thought I'd try again this past fall. Anastasia and her group did not seem to need/want input along the way. It would take a lot for me to mentor again. I feel my mentoring capabilities would be better used for students that really need mentors not for those that are already in honors/advanced courses.
Always a pleasure to work with students eager to do well. I hope my contribution makes a difference for them.
I'm the executive director.
I understand that they get a lot out of it that the teacher probably doesn't have time for.
Because I believe I can help if the student is willing to work with me.
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
Being there for the student, when they require assistance.
Providing guidance to young people.
Seeing the student really interested and engaged in their project.
Learning more about the Kona ice business and seeing this project finish successfully.
Watching the student's communication and work quality skyrocket.
Knowing the student appreciated your feedback.
Working with the students and seeing them grow throughout the project.
Helping a student get a better grasp of how research and statistics pertain to real life.
Meeting and consulting with the student.
The most difficult aspect of participating.
Saying goodbye to the student.
It's hard to know the student's response to recommendations while only communicating via electronic messages.
Being patient when there is nothing the student is asking for assistance with. If there is nothing to help with, it is great when the student at least lets you know what they are learning about and working on.
I was very frustrated that I could not help as I wanted to provide support. I don't feel as though I provided any help or support to Anastasia and her project.
No real difficulties, good teamwork between student and teacher. I am not an expert in SoLoMo myself so I could not help too much in that specific area.
Mentoring three students at a time did not allow me to invest as much as I wanted to.
Time.
There was a little frustration waiting for student responses. I'm willing to put in a lot more effort, but most students don't keep up with twice a week communication.
Trying not to be overly critical of written documents from the student such that she would not feel bad.
First time you've been part of a formal mentoring program.
