Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
Communication from the teacher to understand expectations of the students is extremely helpful
Continued interactions throughout the project.
This was far and away the best project I've been a part of with Mentored Pathways, so nothing to improve.
Educate the students on the importance of communicating with the mentor and have a greater involvement on the quality of the mentoring experience by holding 1:1 sessions in person 2-3 times during the semester to give live feedback and enrich the interaction.
I think this went as well as it could have. The project design and the interaction from Jolene was good. There was some difficulty with the individual student being overly focused on a single, narrow solution, but that's just the luck of the draw.
My mentee never submitted a draft to me before the deadline.
The teacher did a wonderful job of updating both students and mentors. My only suggestion would be to ensure that each student submits a final project to their mentor.
The teacher did send out communications; however, I'm not really clear on whether my student is finished with her project or not. I did not see the overall final project with presentations, and so don't know if this mentoring assignment is finished, or there is still something that I can do to support the student. Mentored Pathways has always been very supportive, positive, and responsive! One area of opportunity is for them to make the website more user friendly. I have difficulty loading documents at times, and when it looks like my e-mail drafts are being saved, they are not, which has caused me to lose some work in draft before I've been ready to share with the student.
No suggestions. I like to web portal and resources.

Nothing, all was OK.
Not sure
There was a bit of difficulty uploading work for my other student in this class so I shared uploads via Kaylee and it took a while for the issue to be fixed as the ticket got a bit lost along the way. Once the issue was isolated though, it was fixed very quickly and helpfully.
Please see previous comments under the survey for student Kaylee for this project. The teacher is often critical in making this projects a success and Jolene Wofford does an excellent job and is clearly committed to making the program work to its full potential.
This project went pretty smoothly.

Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
This student did an excellent job of soliciting my feedback and then using it to improve their project. Overall I believe the interactions helped the student consider additional input and get to different outcomes
Good follow through by the student on the project steps, ensuring they had all the information and were able to summarize the outcomes.
I haven't seen the final project yet, but given the work I have seen, I have no doubt the student put together a stellar final project.
Did not see the final project but the student was not too motivated to actually improve the business and projected an interest in only completing the course and securing the pass grade by completing minimal requirements.
Fantastic! Great work collaborating with the restaurant staff.
It was "ok". I got the feeling that my student wasn't heavily invested in the final document. She had a heavy workload and was involved in another project, and I suspect that those took precedence as this project got nearer to the end.
I was not given a chance to review any final project from the student.
I have provided input to the sections throughout the project; I have not seen the overall completed project (or at least my understanding of what complete is).
I did not see Mitch's final project but I was ill at the end of the term so he may have been waiting for a response from me before he posted.
We could perhaps improved with more communication, but the communications we did have went well.
My mentee worked very hard during all project. I am very, very proud of the results, no doubt that the results are showing what the student did, the effort, the interest and the engage to this project.
I find that I rarely see the final version... the version that was generated after I have made suggestions and edits. This is frustrating to me.
This was a really good project. Jolene Wofford is a really excellent teacher to work with - gives good clear information and is always willing to help out with additional background info, e.g. I asked her for some info on writing criteria for DECA and she pointed me quickly in the right direction. She is also encouraging of the mentors throughout. The other thing that is, I think, ESSENTIAL to the success of these projects, is giving the students a deadline to get info to the mentors that then gives them time to make changes and revisions before the final deadline to the teacher. This makes us feel like spending time working thoroughly through revisions with a student is well worth the effort because they have time to really learn and refine their project.
Please see comments under survey for Kaylee - these two students were in the same group and worked together on this project.
My student was always willing to incorporate my feedback... and I think that really improved her overall deliverable.

Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
1 - No
20 - Yes

Why or why not.
I find that I learn more about how to improve my overall communications with people when I work on these projects. It is also great to see the outcomes in the end.
I will continue to mentor students since I find the mentoring experience enriching and wish to help students and learn with them about new things in the process.
I'm too old to stop now.
1. The project plan, posted by the teacher, did not have accurate due dates, considering that the project started later than it was expected. It was very confusing. 2. My student took 5 days off in the beginning of the project that already started late. She was lost most of the time and late with all her work, and overwhelmed. 3. I had a feeling that my student and her peers were terrified to present her work to their mentor before getting their feedback from the teacher first, especially in the beginning. I believe, that was because the teacher did a poor job explaining the idea of mentorship. 4. My student had never corrected her grammatical errors that I had pointed out to her in the beginning of the project.
I thoroughly enjoy helping students through this format and am excited about future opportunities.
This is my 4th or 5th mentoring arrangement. I am understanding more about the value that I can bring to the students, and that they are at varying levels of interest and ability. When I am feeling like I am not helping them much at all, I get feedback to the contrary, so this makes me what to do what I can to support them! Education is one of the most valuable tools we have for success. We need to give every student a chance to realize their potential.
I am enjoying the connection to the students as they work through their projects.
Great program!
It was a very good experience.
I think that it helps students understand the professional world more. The program also keeps me connected with the youth.
Always enjoy working with new students and helping them navigate their way through different parts of high school and into college or careers.

Every time I participate in one of these projects with a new student, it's an entirely new experience.

The most rewarding aspect of participating.
The student and teacher were both very engaged throughout the project. They saw the benefit of having conversations and receiving feedback from someone other than the teacher. I felt like I built a relationship with this student and could help them be successful.
Being able to assist the student to think about different aspects that they may not have considered and seeing the project to completion.
I enjoyed working and thinking about this problem and learning about the challenges of an independent business. The social media aspect was very interesting and is a current problem so I enjoyed providing suggestions for improvement in that regard.
Knowing that the interactions are likely to subconsciously positively affect the students' way of thinking for years.
Well, I expected to guide a student, even to the regional competetion. But considering my student's work ethics, I hope she did not fail the class. I was very disappointed because I felt like I never got a chance to actually mentor her (she was always behind on her work, and never submitted her draft to my before the due date). I expected a more responsive attitude from the student, considering that I picked her based on the "similarity" of our personalities and work ethics.
I really enjoyed watching my mentee grow and start expanding his thought process.
Caitlin and her team came up with some really good recommendations for the business they were working with. It was great to see their involvement and creativity!
Appreciate the opportunity to connect with the students and help them access resources.
Helping a student
The contact with young students.
Being able to provide feedback that influences the student's project in a positive way. Ultimately, it's about seeing the student succeed.
I loved the interaction with my student and see my feedback turned into a quality product in the form of a great project done by my student. I look forward to mentoring more such students in future.
The students I worked with on this project were dedicated and enthusiastic and worked really hard. That's the biggest reward a mentor could ask for as you can see the things you put in really having an effect on the students and see them grow in confidence and ability. Both my students were also excellent communicators who wrote frequently and well and were clear about how best I could help them.
See Kaylee's survey
Seeing how my feedback inspired new ideas in my student's mind.

The most difficult aspect of participating.
None with this student/project
I did not start out as this individual's mentor so it was a little difficult to build repoire.
Student participation and open communication. Reserved or shy folks have a harder time involving themselves due to the written communication format of the program and are more suited to in-person mentoring.
Concentrating on writing messages frequently.
Getting my student to send me her drafts before she sent them for grading.
The most difficult aspect was consistent, back-and-forth communication for both of us and I wish I had been able to help review a finished project.
Not being clear on where I could have added more value to the student. The students need to better learn and be confident to tell the mentors where the mentors have helped them, and where they can use more support.
Synchronizing my accessing the web portal with my students access times to respond faster.
limited communication
Nothing, all was OK.
Getting the students to send their work to me to review. Even drafts are good. I think the student does not understand that the project is a work in progress for the student and mentor together.
Just the uploading issue but outside of that, this was a smooth project. The most difficult thing was keeping up with my students! They were working at a high level and to be able to help them I had to do more in-depth research and editing of work because they were already great at the basics.
See Kaylee's survey
Honestly, with this student/project, it was the lag time. Seems that by the time the student got my feedback, most of the project deliverables had already been submitted.
