Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
More ability to see the students work along the way.
The teacher could keep the mentors on track a bit more with weekly messages identifying where the kids should be within their project. Melissa did a great job of helping us focus on how to keep our mentees organized with the note catcher which was a wonderful tool.
This project worked remarkably well, given my student's initial writing difficulties. I think the enforced communication in English worked wonders, and I felt my student was fully engaged throughout, not at all resentful.
- Use easier tools (better PowerPoint than Note Catcher) at least for these young students - Choose easier topics for the projects (in my case, better how to save water when washing car than lead contamination)
I know the some of the students were really struggling and the project had to be amended. I know our goal is to expand and teach the students new skills, but this needs to based upon their capabilities.
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
While I did not see the student's final project I did see versions of their notes. I think the teacher did a great job of working with the students to have them understand what it takes to compelte a research project.
I did not see a final project. The last view I had of Andrea's note catcher was April 21st.
The final project was terrific! He did a great job pulling all his research together into a cogent and complete report. His writing was truly remarkable; I hope that the majority of the quality assurance was through his own skills rather than having a ghostwriter.
Taking into account his age and the topic, overall the result was very good
I did get to see her research data, but we did not have time to complete the final project. I was very impressed with the progress that Alicia made over the course of the mentoring time. I know she had been struggling, but the research notes were well pulled together.
Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
0 - No
5 - Yes
Why or why not.
Absolutely. While frustrating at times because communication takes awhile to turn around, it is rewarding to see the students progress from a communication standpoint as well as their overall improvement as they work through the project.
How could I quit now? :-D
It was a very good experience
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
This was the first mentoring relationship on a research project. Interesting to see the students work through the project and learn along the way.
Helping a student get experience researching, and helping a student communicate with an adult in a professional manner.
The contact with young students
Seeing the students grow over the course of the project.
The most difficult aspect of participating.
Initial difficulties with the NoteCatcher technology, but these passed. It looks like a great tool.
Follow the teacher's recommendations
