Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
Continue to stay in support of these students who are looking for pointed guidance and "some one to connect with". Commend the teachers for what they do...in inspiring young minds.
Encourage the student to communicate regularly. I find myself at fault for eventually not making regular communication but it is the student who falls before I do.
This project was highly fragmented and the scope changed significantly from the advertised intent. I hope that my presence had some influence for the student, although I cannot help but feel the student did not avail himself of me to the extent possible, which also affected my engagement on this project.
This project would be more successful if the communication at the beginning of the year would have been carried through the end of the year. There seemed to be a drop-off in communications late 3rd quarter and all of 4th quarter. It was difficult at the end to know what the students were working on. Additionally, it would have been nice to see the final project the student created (hopefully it was created).
I thought the project was great and Ashley is a fantastic teacher.
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
Not received. The student said that his grades had improved and that he realised more the value of putting the effort in now. I can only hope that he continues this newly found work ethic.
I believe Tommie did a great job with her final project. She put a lot of thought into it.
No final project was shared. I have not heard from the student almost 40 days. The student wrote a fair amount in the first half of the project, but it seemed that the communications really dropped off in the spring. I'm not sure if perhaps she didn't have much class time or what the reason behind the lack of communication was. The scholarship essay draft was well developed in terms of content, but I didn't see the revisions so I'm not sure if they were understood. The student really seemed to appreciate the encouragement and seemed to enjoy the project. She seemed to enjoy writing messages and would take extra time (even outside of class sometimes) to really work on her messages.
Naima is a very talented student I hope she continues to achieve and do well.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
0 - No

Why or why not.
It has been a very satisfying and educational experience for me to connect with young minds across...and to have a dialog with them on how they can best navigate throught this early years to make the best of what is front of them.
Quite simply I like the opportunity to make a difference in a child's education.
I find mentoring very rewarding. I love the idea of helping students.
Yes, I'm always interested in mentoring students to help them with college and career planning.
I enjoy being part of the program.
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
Simple connecting with young minds...
Reading their final messages.
I love that I can help the students with the end result they are looking for.
I think I was an encouragement to the student and that she did benefit from participating in this project. I think having to share goals and progress with a mentor increased accountability. She was able to share her concerns about high school and getting schoolwork done and in turn, I was able to provide advice.
Meeting Naima.
The most difficult aspect of participating.
Lack of consistency of student communication.
Trying to stay on topic can be difficult.
- Not hearing from the student or teacher regularly during the second half of the school year - Not knowing where we were in the project - Unclear expectations - Not seeing the final project
