Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
Maybe the teacher could share some information on the individual kids. For example, John did not hand in his final presentation so I am not sure how well he did or if he learned much.
Once the messages from the teacher started arriving weekly, it really helped to put into context the messages from the student. Either having that, or a syllabus would enable us to understand more of what the student was told that week so we could better frame our responses.
continue to provide information that will guide the mentor on the series of activities
Thought support was adequate. There were some logistics challenges and some unexpected things that came up, but overall, thought it was good.
The email reminders to post a message are very helpful, and it is always good to get a reminder at the beginning of the week what the expectations are for the student that week.
Could have more guidance from the teacher.
Do the teachers/staff also provide attention to proper writing - grammar/spelling/diction? I think it would help if as part of the orientation or kickoff or just the first classroom meeting - this should be well articulated. If this is already done - SUPER!!
I'm not sure on that.
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
John did not show me his final presentation.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the student's final presentation and very excited to hear the positive feedback she received on her verbal presentation! The ability to organize her thoughts and present a logical plan was great to see. I was hoping to see a bit more improvement in her writing skills, as her final essay contained some of the same items I had corrected previously, but overall, the level of thought and research and time she put into the project really showed a growth.
Malakai has challenges with written communications (capitalization, run on sentences) and not very verbose, but he did respond. He has not done very many presentations (I think) so for not having much experience, I feel he did a good job. That will come with time.
This project went very well. I enjoyed working with Tracy's class.
I wasn't able to see the final project, just a final essay. It was clear it hadn't been reviewed and unfortunately, there was not time for me to provide any edits.
Weiland did a nice job with his project.
The student was engaged
Jonathan did really well and communicated consistently. Just finishing the project/program I can imagine was a big feat for him.
Once I reviewed and made suggestions to Genesis' PowerPoint presenation, I would have liked to see the next iteration of it to learn how she incorporated my suggestions.
Anita's final project was great. I would say that she just probably is going to need more support in the future to ensure that she is prepared for the future.
Diana was not able to complete her presentation but it contains the details I want to see. There were quite some things she missed out like the financial aspect.
It was not as detailed as I expected. I told her what should be written there but I guess she had her own plan. I wanted to edit to show her how it's properly done but i could not edit.
Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
0 - No
18 - Yes
Why or why not.
I really enjoy being a Telementor. I get enjoyment out of helping the kids.
This is a very convenient format that allows me to interact with a student with whom I might never have any contact otherwise. I love that I can log on whenever I have the free time to adequately respond, instead of being required to go to a certain place at a specific time.
Enjoy the telementoring, so would continue.
It's rewarding to have a chance to influence a student.
It's a worthwhile experience from which my student and I both benefit.
I think it helped the student greatly to have real world contact with how making plans is helpful for future goals.
Because I love inspiring people. That everyone can do it because I was able to.
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
Teaching the kids something.
I really enjoy learning about the student's background in a completely different environment than my own upbringing, from a different part of the US. It was also very rewarding to receive her emails and responses to my questions or feedback, showing that she truly cared.
being able to add on to the wonderful ideas of students and help them in achieving a positive end goal
Helping the child develop their project. Malakai was determined to present on his chosen interests after school so he stayed true to that.
Getting a glimpse of what these students may become someday.
Seeing my feedback employed by the student.
Helping the student achieve their goal. Also learning about their interest. Just being available to help.
Observing how Genesis' self confidence increased.
See the student grow over the course of the project.
When I knew that my mentee was very passionate of what she wants to do in college.
When I saw how passionate Gisel was in her chosen career.
The most difficult aspect of participating.
Sometimes communication can be difficult. Some kids are eager to participate while others seem forced.
I wish I could meet the student! After being "pen pals" for so many months, it is difficult to know you will never meet the student. Also, I think sometimes it is hard to convey the message I want to get across in an email; without tone or inflection, or being able to gauge the student's reaction, it is more difficult to know if the message you want to convey is getting across.
No real difficulties.
It's always making sure to get online and send a message. It is easy to get busy with work and get behind on communicating. I try to set reminders on my calendar so I don't forget, but even then it doesn't always work.
The hardest thing is always finding the time. The email reminders from program staff are very helpful.
Would have liked to have influenced more or be more effective in articulating the importance of having proper grammar/spelling/diction of Jonathan's written word. I know this isn't an English class, however, proper English (written or spoken) is definitely important.
I didn't have any challenges.
Sharing of information is still a struggle.
Keeping up with the email and for the project, I wanted to edit what she did but I could not.
Keeping up with the email.
