Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
Help the student really read and follow-up on each mentor communication. Many time I sent specific questions and suggestions with no response or a very limited response. I wasn't sure how much I was able to really help this student.
It would be great if the engagement of the student participants matches that of the mentor. This is a great program but if there are critical issues in important basic classes, then the students focus should be re-directed.

Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
In Gavin's time, he did not take as much advantage of his mentor as I would have hoped. His communication tapered off considerably in the last month of the project.
This was a career exploration project. As the student learned about opportunities beyond his specific career choice, he seemed to pick up more diverse interests. His project reflected those opportunities (or maybe confusion) in his goals.
I have not seen the results - the final project.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
0 - No
5 - Yes

Why or why not.
Although it was a bit difficult to connect with this student, I have had VERY successful mentor matches in that past when I was able to make a real difference for that student. Mentoring via e-mail is a bit more difficult and it always "takes two". I understand that not every match and every project will have the same level of success or satisfaction.

The most rewarding aspect of participating.
Being able to help the student with his research and understanding of the "real world". Also, connecting him to get career advice from a professional in his field.

The most difficult aspect of participating.
Getting much detailed or specific response from the student. If the communication was specific to an assignment, he was verbose, but if the communication was a response to me, there was not much feedback.
This project was difficult because of frequent long gaps between student messages.
Finding time to support this project along with a >40 hour professional work week.
