Great project. Continue to support and encourage students (and mentors) to explore outside of the lesson plan.
The challenge is always finding responses to surveys. I sent out almost 20 surveys and only received 1 response. This is frustrating not only to the student, but to the mentor, too. I understand the value of getting this information, but cold messaging does not receive desired results. Perhaps ITP can establish a network of professionals who are willing to respond to students from various careers. I realize they can't all be done, but ITP as an organization may have better luck getting people aligned with the program.
This project went very smoothly and the student really seemed to benefit from our work together, both from what the student wrote and from what the teacher has shared with me. I think having the teacher share all the careers students in the class are interested in with all the mentors was a great addition to this project. I think in many cases other mentors were able to help students obtain the requested interviews based on their own personal contacts. I would recommend doing this in the future. You never know what contacts different mentors have.
This project went well.
Joan Turek is a wonderful teacher, I can't think of anything she can do to make her students more successful.
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
I know my student prepared a final project and was supposed to present it to his class, but I never saw the presentation or heard how it went.
The final projects tend to be cut/paste exercises from the previous work. To me, that is the minimum expectation. Encourage students to think about the interviews and new information and to draw generalities. Have them describe the surprises and then refine their previous choices. Instead of repeating that a professional society has a monthly magazine, I'd rather hear them internalize how professionals engage with the society (or not). The current program does a great job of forcing them to collect the information. As a mentor, I spend a small portion of my time aiding their collection. Most of my time is spent asking them what they think about the information. This is a hard transition for high school kids, but a very valued skill in business. Have I said that I love helping with this project? :)
Very nice new template! I like this format better than the single large page. Put some place holders in the template to encourage finding graphics...
I thought Caleb had a strong final project, especially the poster. I think he put in a lot of time doing his research and learning from the different professionals which were key parts of this project. I would have liked to have seen a bit more information included in the final project, but I know we were tight on time and due to my work responsibilities at the end of the year, I had limited time to provide feedback. However, more detailed information was provided through the different portfolios in the project. I think he also learned a lot through editing the different portfolio entries - I was impressed by his willingness to learn from suggestions/edits throughout the project.
I didn't receive the final project, but did review all of the pieces and assume it will be great.
My particular student was exceptional. He was intelligent and self-motivated to complete assignments in a thorough and timely manner.
Working with students who are held accountable for meeting their project goals, and who actively participate without the mentor having to pull teeth makes the partnership truly work.
Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?

Why or why not.
Fun to see how kids explore their options and engage in their future. And I always learn something.
Absolutely! I really enjoy working with students, especially college & career research because I believe that it helps them to get a more realistic picture of different careers, what they need to do to obtain them and help motivate them to do their best in school.
When the teacher and students are engaged, it keeps the project on track and runnning smoothly. I have worked with Ms. Turek and her students over the years, and her involvement is consistently evident in driving her students to succeed.
It is an important part of helping groom children for their role in the world they will be responsible for managing.
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
Stoney really seemed to learn a lot through this project. He is an excellent communicator, so I really knew what was going on with his project.
Getting my student to expand their horizons just a bit.
Working with Caleb & the teacher. It was neat to see Caleb grow throughout the project and really strive to do his best with each assignment. He was really good at accepting constructive feedback which I greatly admire -- it's something I still struggle with. I also really enjoyed his thank you message, because it helped me to understand how much he appreciated our work together and what he learned from this project.
My mentee, Nick, was a pleasure to work with. He was enthusiastic, motivated, and fun to interact with.
The students happiness in achieving goals.
Seeing growth in a student
The most difficult aspect of participating.
Sometimes, it is hard to gauge the skills and/or interest of a student. It usually takes a while to get to know their capability before you can ask more detailed questions. At times, I wish I could continue my relationship with a student.
I wasn't as available for Caleb as I would have liked to have been. I was out of the office more for this project than any project since my wedding due to a family emergency August through November. Both Caleb & Joan were very supportive whenever I was out and we made the most of the time we had together.
This particular project went extremely well. In the past, the most challenging part of the career planning projects was receiving enough interview responses. Nick received 6.
Getting student to see the importance and detail required of editing their work.
Managing my own time to be consistent with my messages. Still trying to find a system that works for me.
