Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
I felt the project was quite successful, and the accomplishments were more than I expected.
more frequent and shorter updates on what is expected of the students and how the mentors can help.
I realize that setting a full-year plan is challenging. While the project and the enthusiasm of my student lasted the entire time, I felt that the specifics could have been communicated a little more frequently in the second half of the year.
Messages were very helpful to understand what was going on in the overall project. My only suggestion would be to have maybe weekly messages.
Make the telementors an active part of the review process for the student's work?
This has been one of the better projects with which I have been a part
I would think some better planning of the project tasks would help the students. The project seemed to bog down and I believe that is the job of the teacher and staff to keep challenging the students and not let their natural tendencies to coast take over.
I think having a time line to see what stage of the project we were on would be helpful. There was a schedule on the telementor website, but we did not seem to be following that after the first few months.
The emails with ideas of what we could encourage the students to work on were very helpful - keep this up!

Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
The final project was a video to introduce the next class to the project. I felt the students could have spent more time with the audio portion, to increase the information being passed along.
It seemed that messages from my student came sporadically, so back and forth dialogue was sometimes a bit challenging. In addition, a return message from my student reminded me to reply, so sometimes without a response, I would forget to write a message in a timely manner.
My student's final paper was excellent. We had the luxury of time to get through a couple of drafts, and I feel that we worked well together. I know that if she keeps practicing writing, her skills will continue to improve. She is a bright and creative young lady.
I think the project in general was a really interesting learning opportunity for the students. Letting them explore personal interests in the subgroups gave them each a chance to shine. I could tell that my student seemed very interested in being involved with the cameras and videos, and I think being interested in a particular aspect of the project helps motivate students to do well.

Ryan did well in all his assignments throughout the year
I was more than impressed with my students communcation skills. He also was very open to learning every aspect of the project. Just not enough time in the day for allof it.
I think Olivia showed a lot of enthusiasm for the project and her work which showed in her final project. Her sentence structure and spelling could use a little work.
This student was struggling but I did see improvement which was encouraging.
Lucas is a very intelligent young man and I've enjoyed working with him on this project. His communication skills are well above average for students his age and he seems to be quite conscientious of his work, which is refreshing. It's truly been a pleasure and I wish him the best in all future endeavors.
My students' project kept changing, so it was hard to discern what her final project actually was.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
0 - No
19 - Yes

Why or why not.
It was my first experience with it
Again I absolutely love this program. It is a huge win on both sides when the match is good, and the full year really allowed us to make a strong connection and I was able to see real progress in her development through the year.
I would consider it but may not be able to mentor each semester. Much will depend on workload for my job.
It was rewarding
After two projects I find myself really looking forward to the next one. It is very rewarding to me to maybe make a difference in a students life and their educational direction.
I enjoy working with the students.
Great project, and it's nice being able to work with local students. The project also fits well with my agency's mission.

The most rewarding aspect of participating.
the final note I received thanking me for the time spent with the student. Always good to be appreciated.
1:1 with a single child
It was great seeing my student get a kick out of seeing videos of animals using cameras he set up or using nests that he helped set up. He really seemed to enjoy being outdoors and helping to provide benefit for the wildlife living in the Sylvan Dale Ranch area so animals and people could co-exist together.
There were so many aspects - knowing that Kara was engaged in the program and enthusiastic about the class and the opportunity to work online with a mentor. Her messages through the final day expressed gratitude and while I do not do this for me, I felt really good about it! I am happy to know that Kara and her class know they are in a unique situation - lots of school and mentor support - and while I did not get to know the other students I have a feeling this is a program that will influence them for years to come. This is huge.
I think the enthusiasm kids have for science was the most fun part of the project.
Seeing occasional excitement on the part of the student.
I hope that I have had a positive impact in the student's life
My students last message to me was unbelievable. Really struck me hard. I sure do hope that I made a difference in some way that he will remember throughout his life and career.
I enjoyed seeing the videos and pictures of the class working on the project and seeing the animals that visited the guzzler.
Hearing how I was making a difference.
Participating in a project that teaches real-world science to our youth is the most rewarding part.
The interaction with this particular student (he's very smart, witty, curious, etc.)
Seeing the progress in my students quality of work and ability to think critically about real world problems. She was so creative and passionate at the end.

The most difficult aspect of participating.
my student wasn't alwasy on task. Each email was on a different topic, so it lacked a certain amount of continuity. It's hard to know whether this is the nature of the project or unique to my student.
Oh I'm always terrified of saying the wrong thing - or having my students take something in a manner other than that I have their best interests in mind. Every message gets read several times before sending, to ensure that the tone is positive and the overall goal is met - meaning did we accomplish what we needed to - task at hand, etc. Even the slightest criticism needs to be delivered with the intent of building them up - never tearing them down. Second most difficult aspect is saying goodbye at the end of the year. I would love to know that she eventually graduates from high school.
Probably time. It's important to put time into making mentoring a quality experience for the student. Sometimes it's just tough to fit it in around tight deadlines.
I've had several consecutive mentor experiences that have been unsatisfying because of the low effort expended by the student. I would like to know if there is something I can do to change my style of mentoring to change this.
NA
Not being there to participate in the field trips. The drop cam gave me a view into the project a bit but I really do wish I lived in the area so that I could share more of my wildlife knowledge with the kids every day.
It is difficult to write to the student when you haven't heard from her for a week or so, since then I don't have any specifics on what she has done to comment on. However this was only an occasional problem with Olivia. She was normally good about emailing.
Short and cryptic messages from the student that I didn't know how to respond to.
No difficulty on this project
TIME! (not enough)
