Things either the teacher or the Mentored Pathways Staff do to make a similar project more successful.
My student needed to be encouraged to live up to their time commitments. I had difficulty because, while my student emailed frequently, he did not post files when he said he would, including when he specifically committed to sending files over the weekend and confirmed I would be able to receive them. While I felt I was able to assist him, I didn't feel he respected my time.
I thought both the teacher & the ITP staff were highly involved & there is nothing they can improve upon that I can think of.
Release the documents exchanged between the student/mentor more frequently
I particularly enjoyed this student and project.
Emails sent to mentors are way too long. They should be reduced to minimum necessary in number and keep the email short and perhaps use bullet points to aid the receiver sort through what is needed.
more detailed information on expectations for early phases of the project would be helpful
Feedback regarding the quality of the student's final project as well as suggestions for improvement.
I thought Jenna did an excellent job. The downside was that I wasn't able to review her final presentation - it was ready on a weekend I was out of town.
I feel that my student did a great job on her final project. She sent me copies of her final paper as well as the presentation as she was working on them so I was able to give her feedback & suggestions on how to improve them. She was not offended by any of my suggestions & made the changes she felt were right, which is how it should be. She worked hard on her project & stayed ahead of all the deadlines. I feel that her hard work showed in her final paper & presentation.
Robert generated a hig qulity experiment with a well designed PowerPoint presentation.
Due to technical difficulties, I was not able to view the final project though several attempts were made to get it to me! My student was out sick during the critical final week which put her behind and made it difficult for me to comment on the final version though I did provide feedback on the initial draft.
My student was well prepared and did a goodjob. She could improve in time management: the reviewer needs more than a a few hours to review documents.
Concept was refined over the course of the project. Final presentation and paper came together well and seemed to be an accurate reflection of the student's work. It would be nice to have more time to review and revise preliminary drafts.
It was never shared with me although I had asked several time to see it so that I could help.
Overall experience in the program.

Would you consider mentoring new students in the future?
1 - No
11 - Yes
Why or why not.
It is exciting to explore science with students
In addition to be a learning process for the student, it was a learning process for me.
Mentoring is alwasys a very rewarding experience when both parties are actively involved. I think telementoring is a great way to get professionals involved in mentoring young students since it does not require fac-to-face time. Sometimes meeting face-to-face is better/required, however, the way these projects & the website are designed, I found it very easy to communicate regularly with my student & see her progress on the project.
There is value in sharing experience in these student's activities that is beyond what the teacher may have time to devote at a personal, one-on-one level.
Always enjoy the experience.
The ammount and size of emails received is too high, and many times non-value added.
Very rewarding to share personal successes and failures, and to help the student overcome obstacles in the project.
The most rewarding aspect of participating.
My student was enthusiastic, attentive and very responsive. I liked her attitude!
The most rewarding aspect for me was to see the progression of my student's project & to see her take an interest she has & make a project out of it. It was also rewarding when my student responded with great gratitude whenever I gave her suggestions or feedback on her paper/presentation. It made me feel like my time was well spent & she appreciated it.
Seeing the students condense everything together at the end into the final product. The result was a product that they matured with only some guidance of where to find more resources. The ingenuity came from within the student.
Positive feedback from Kimberly that our exchanges improved her work product.
Being able to participate with a very bright kid.
Seeing the student reason through issues and refine the goals of the project over the course of the term.
The most difficult aspect of participating.
When files post, it would be helpful if an email notification was sent.
At times, the timing of the messages made it difficult for me to get back to the student in a timely manner. Sometimes I replied after that part of the project was due. For the most part though, I was able to respond in a timely enough manner. It helped that my student stayed ahead of all deadlines.
Insuring that timelines were maintained.
the student was late on giving reports and that hindered giving timely feedback.
Still find it difficult to know if I am adding value from such a distance.

Finding time to research background of the project in early weeks
Trying to encourage this student to let me help.
